Chief Executive Officer

Pieter De Weerdt is the Executive Partner of Antarctica Asset Management Ltd. He previously worked for ABN AMRO (1995-1999). His last position was head of European Bond Trading (Amsterdam) where he was mainly in charge of the conversion to Euro and the restructuring of the European offices ahead of the Pan-European market. He was also responsible for all trading and back-book positions in the Euro zone. Previously he headed the bond trading desks of the Belgian (Brussels) and French (Paris) branches of ABN AMRO. Prior to ABN AMRO Pieter worked for JP Morgan in Brussels where he was responsible for Belgian Government bond trading and marketing (1991-1995). Prior to banking he practiced as a lawyer at a Belgian law firm. Pieter holds a degree in Law from the University of Leuven (KUL) (1984-1989) and pursued a specialisation in finance at the University of Louvain-La-Neuve (IAG2D) (1990-1991).

Head of Research & Risk Management

Martin Bendersky is Head of Research and Risk Management. Martin joined in 2010. Since 2002 Martin was Managing Director at Nutrimenta Finance & Investments Ltd, a family office based in Geneva where he was responsible for Alternative Investments for the group, which advised on over $1.4bn in Alternative Investments at peak. At Nutrimenta Martin was instrumental in developing the groups capabilities in sourcing, researching, and due diligence of hedge fund investments globally across all strategies. He also was actively involved in developing the portfolio and risk management framework and analytical tools for single investments and portfolios as a whole. Between 1997-2002 Martin worked at the strategic management consulting firm Booz Allen & Hamilton Inc. assisting clients in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela and the USA with regards to business strategy and corporate finance issues including strategic business goals and assessing investment or divestment opportunities in the region. From 1995 to 1996, Martin was an analyst at Molinos Rio de la Plata. Martin has a BSc in Industrial Engineering from Buenos Aires University, a Masters from San Andres University and an MBA with Distinction from Kellogg’s Graduate School of Business.

Head of Business Development

Filip Vandenven is Head of Business Development. Prior to joining, he was co-founder of Wingfield Corporation (2000-2007), where he led the corporate finance team, with a focus mainly on early stage venture capital and seed funding. Filip began his professional career as a Consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (1991-1993) in the Corporate Finance Department where he was part of the team responsible for the M&A and valuation activity in the Benelux. He continued his career in the financial sector in fixed income products at JP Morgan in Sydney, Australia (1994-1995).  Filip has been involved in a number of start-ups and joint ventures. Filip has a BA in applied economics from the University of Antwerp with a specialization in international affairs.

General Counsel

Hernan Lopez Mazzeo is General Counsel of Antarctica Asset Management Ltd.. Hernán has been working with the Antarctica Group since inception in 2001 firstly as board member of the Antarctica’s then flagship product, Antarctica Market Neutral Fund Ltd.. Prior to his engagement as General Counsel with Antarctica, he was at the law firm Estudio Bosch in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he remains a partner since 2003. From 1999 until 2002, he was a senior associate at Estudio O’Farrell in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he developed an expertise in capital markets and banking. He was previously a foreign associate at the New York office of the international law firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP in the Latin America practice group. In 1998, Hernan was assigned to the London office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as a member of the Finance and Corporate group. Hernán received a degree in law from Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1994, and a Masters Degree in Law and Economics from Universidad Torcuato di Tella, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2000.

Head of Operations

Jadid Khan is Head of Operations at Antarctica Asset Management Ltd. Prior to joining Antarctica; he was at International Asset Management Ltd (IAM) based in London for 9 years as a member of the senior management team taking responsibility for operations and special projects. At IAM, Jadid played a pivotal role in transforming the operational framework of the business, increasing automation, accuracy and efficiencies in all areas. During his time at IAM Jadid led the Investment Accounting and IT teams and built a capability to facilitate transactions in the secondary hedge fund market. Prior to IAM Jadid was at West LB Asset Management, also based in London, supporting the emerging markets investment team in all areas of operations. Jadid has a BA in Business Economics from Leicester University and is a CAIA charter holder.

Senior Research Analyst

Idan Shani is a senior research analyst at Antarctica Asset Management (US), Inc. Prior to joining Antarctica, Mr Shani was a research analyst at Ivy Asset Management Corp. (2005-2008), focusing on credit, distressed, and event driven strategies and managers. He also gained experience at Ivy as an analyst in portfolio management, supporting portfolio analytics and reporting, as well as system and process automation. Mr Shani holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics with a Division of Studies in Management, summa cum laude, from The Open University of Israel. He is both a CFA and CAIA charter holder.

Senior Research Analyst

Rana Atie is Head of Antarctica Asset Management (Europe) Limited and a senior research analyst. Ms Atie previously worked at the World Bank (2004-2006), in Washington DC as a Junior Professional Associate in the Banking and Debt Management Group. Prior to that, she interned for Credit Suisse in London, at the Private Client Services department. She holds an MBA (finance and investment) and a Bachelor of Science degree in System Analysis and Engineering from the George Washington University.

Head of Operational Due Diligence

Joseph Li leads the Operational Due Diligence function for Antarctica Asset Management (US), Inc. Prior to joining the firm in July 2008, Joe was a Director for the Regional Due Diligence Management group at ABN Amro. At ABN Amro (2005-2008), Joe headed the High Grade Financial Institutions & Alternative Asset Managers team, which was responsible for reviewing all investment advisors, hedge funds and other alternative asset managers. Joe worked at B-Trade Securities LLC (2003-2005) in New York as a Senior Credit Analyst / Credit Officer for the Credit & Risk Management Group and at Instinet Corporation (1998-2003) as a Credit Manager / Credit Analyst in the Global Risk Management Department. He received his credit training at Moody’s Investors Service, where he worked as a bond analyst in the Public Finance Department (1993 to 1998) in the Higher Education and other Not-for-Profit Sector group. Joe received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from NYU and a Masters in Business Administration in Finance from St. John’s University.

Senior Research Analyst

Atsede Aemro-Selassie is a Senior research analyst at Antarctica Asset Management (Europe) Limited. Prior to joining Antarctica, Atsede was a research analyst at SAIL Advisors (2012-2013), focusing on global equity long/short strategies. Prior to SAIL, she held a similar role at Robeco Investment Management (2008-2011) in London and New York. She previously worked as an economic analyst at the World Bank (2005-2007) in Washington DC with focus on public expenditure review in Southern Africa region. Between 1998-2002 she worked at American Express Asset Management as economic/equity analyst in London. Atsede started her career at the Economist Intelligence Unit (1995-1997) as a researcher tasked with macroeconomic data analysis. Atsede holds an MBA from Imperial College (London) and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Greenwich (London).

Research Analyst

Robertson Reid is a research analyst at Antarctica Asset Management (Europe) Limited. Prior to joining Antarctica, Mr Reid completed a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, where he gained experience within the industry working at Irons Foulner Partners. During his time at Edinburgh, he had the opportunity to partake in the pioneering research of synthetic biology, presenting the findings at a conference at MIT University. Most recently he has completed a Masters in Finance at the Imperial College Business School.

Compliance Officer

Crown Zhuang joined from UBS Hong Kong, where she worked in the Operations Department. She has held various positions across different asset classes during her time of supporting the bank’s trading activities. She worked on several process-streamlining projects and conducted key risk and control tasks. Crown holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration (Accounting & Finance) with the University of Hong Kong.  

Junior Research Analyst

Aram joined Antarctica in 2017 having previously interned for Caxton Associates in London. Aram holds a Master’s degree in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and BA (Hons) degree in International Relations from the Moscow State University.

Business Advisory

Francisco Salonia Ruzo is a founding partner of Antarctica Asset Management and managing member Antarctica Asset Management (US), Inc. in New York. He previously worked for JP Morgan & Co in New York (June 1997 – February 2001). His last position as a Vice President was in the New Markets Domain Group of LabMorgan. Mr. Salonia Ruzo analysed the development of non-financial derivatives markets. Prior, he structured and marketed equity derivatives products to corporations, institutional investors, and private clients in Latin America. Prior to working in New York, he worked in the London office covering Italian, Spanish and French clients (1996). Prior to Investment banking, Mr Salonia Ruzo was a senior consultant for Price Waterhouse in Washington D.C. (1991-1995). He conducted reviews of Asset/Liability management policies and tools including bank funding and pricing of financial instruments. Mr Salonia Ruzo reviewed regulatory issues in treasury risk management and derivatives products. Among other projects Mr Salonia Ruzo participated in the regulatory restructuring of the People’s Bank of China and the financial restructuring of the external debt of Nicaragua. Mr Salonia Ruzo holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor in Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Investor Services

Thomas Upfield is a Business Analyst at Antarctica Asset Management (Europe) Limited. He previously worked on the Natural Gas Trading Desk at Gazprom Marketing and Trading  London sitting alongside the Gas, Power, and Foreign Exchange traders, and analysts as a Trading Assistant. Thomas has also worked in research roles for the Macro fund TVT Investment Management. Thomas holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from University College London, and a First Class Honours degree in Economics.
